CarrdPro Plus$49/yearSite password with optional username (default "guest")

WebflowBasic site plan (any paid site plan)$180/year billed yearlySite, page and folder protection; also on sites in certain paid Workspace plans

Who should skip page protection

Skip it if the content is a file you could send directly; a shared folder with per-person access is easier to revoke. Skip it for paid content you sell to many people, because one shared password can be passed on; a course or membership platform with individual accounts is the right tool there, and systeme.io lists one course on its free plan. [7] Skip it for a pre-launch preview if your builder already gives you a private preview link.

Keep it for small, low-risk groups where convenience matters more than tracking: a client, a workshop cohort, a family event page.

Good uses for a shared password

All of these share one password among several people. If you need to know who accessed what, or revoke one person, you need accounts and a membership tool, not page protection.

  • A client preview before launch.
  • A resources page for workshop attendees.
  • A portfolio section under NDA that you share by email.
  • An internal page for a small team that changes rarely.

What a page password does not do

  • It does not give each person their own login, so you cannot remove one person without changing the password for everyone.
  • It is not a safe place for health, financial or identity documents.
  • It does not stop someone who has the password from sharing it or downloading files.
  • On Webflow, exported code does not include password protection; the help page lists it among features that will not function in an export. [6]

Set up a protected page safely

On Carrd, the documentation describes a password and an optional username, with "guest" as the default username. If you set a username, tell people it exists; a visitor who expects only a password may get stuck at the prompt. [1]

On Webflow, protection can apply to the whole site, individual pages or folders, according to its help article. Protecting a folder is useful for a set of client pages that share one password. [4]

  • Use a password that is not reused anywhere else, and generate it with a password manager.
  • Share it through a different channel from the link, for example the link by email and the password by message.
  • Write down who has it, so you know who to tell when you change it.
  • Change it when a project ends or someone leaves the group.
  • Check the live page in a private browser window to confirm the password screen appears and the content is hidden.
  • Confirm the page is not linked from your public navigation unless you intend people to see the prompt.

Cheapest route by situation

One private page alongside a public one-page site: Carrd Pro Plus at $49 a year, which also adds redirects and payment forms. A multi-page site that already needs Framer Basic: protection is included, so no extra cost. A Webflow site already on Basic or above: included. Do not upgrade a whole builder plan just for a preview page you will use for a week; a draft link or screen-share may do the job.

We have not tested the password screens on these builders. Check how the protected page looks on a phone and whether search engines can see it before sharing.
