Count posts and content types for three years

A weekly blog adds about 52 posts a year. Three years is about 156 items, well inside Framer Basic. The tighter limit is collections: posts, authors and categories are often three collections. Framer Basic allows two. If you model categories as a field rather than a collection, two may be enough.

A news-style site publishing daily adds about 365 items a year, so Framer Basic would pass 1,000 in under three years. Framer Pro allows 2,500 and sells more items at $20 per 10,000; Webflow Premium lists 20,000 without an add-on.

Who should skip both

A newsletter that you also publish on the web may not need a website CMS at all; many email platforms host an archive. A blog with fewer than ten posts a year may be simpler as static pages on a one-page or small site. Pay for a CMS row when repeated content is central to the site and someone will publish to it regularly.

Free tiers are for drafting, not publishing a blog

Webflow Starter publishes to a webflow.io domain with 50 CMS items and 2 static pages. Framer's Free plan uses a free Framer domain and lists 1 GB bandwidth. Both are reasonable for building templates and importing a sample of posts before paying. Neither is a custom-domain blog. [1][2]

What free tiers let you rehearse

Before paying, import 20 posts into each candidate's free tier. Webflow Starter allows 50 CMS items, enough for that sample. Framer Free lists 10 collections and 1,000 pages for Free projects. Check that dates, authors, cover images and rich text survive, and that post URLs match your old slugs. [1][2]

Our pick by situation

This comparison does not rank editors, performance or SEO output. We have not imported a blog into either product. Import a sample of 20 real posts with images into each free tier and check the slug, date and image fields before choosing.

  • Personal or studio blog, two content types, under 1,000 posts: Framer Basic.
  • Blog plus case studies plus team pages plus testimonials: Framer Pro or Webflow Premium; compare $360 against $300 a year.
  • Large archive or plans to import thousands of posts: Webflow Premium has the higher included item count.
  • Static site with no regular posts: neither CMS row; see the page, CMS or store guide.

Sketch the content model before choosing

Write one line per repeated content type and its fields. Example for a design blog: Posts (title, date, summary, body, cover image, category), Authors (name, photo, bio). That is two collections on Framer if categories stay a field, three if categories become their own collection with pages.

Add the expected item count after one and three years. If the three-year figure or the collection count is above Framer Basic, compare Framer Pro at $360 a year with Webflow Premium at $300 a year on yearly billing. If both are comfortably inside Framer Basic, the cheaper row does the job.

  • Collections needed now and in three years.
  • Items per collection in three years.
  • Whether categories or tags need their own pages.
  • Whether non-designers will publish posts, and which seat or role that requires.

Migration questions to ask first

If you are moving an existing blog, the hard part is URLs, not the CMS. Keep the same post slugs where possible and map every old URL. On Framer, site redirects were listed on the Pro card; plan for that cost if many URLs change. Check that each platform can export your posts if you later leave; we treat exportability as a question to verify on the vendor help pages before committing.
